Description

This is a Fender Custom Shop '59 Esquire, most were finished in white blonde, so the black finish is pretty unusual. This model has now been discontinued, the only '59 Esquire Fender offer now is listed at £2600!

Great sounding guitar, very resonant acoustically. Plugged in it is pretty full on, loud, aggressive, fantastic rock/punk guitar. It has a three way switch, all the way back is the pickup straight to the volume control, right but totally rocking! Middle selection adds the tone control, back it off for more traditional Tele sounds. The front position adds a capacitor for a really bassy sound. It has a top loading bridge, three steel saddles.

The neck is really comfortable to play, fairly chunky, definitely bigger than modern Teles, but not as deep as a Nocaster. Hardly any fretwear. There's about 1/4 of an inch of finish worn away from the back of the neck behind the first fret, I never notice it while playing. The fingerboard wear is also unobtrusive, don't think I've noticed it while playing. There's a few dents and chips on the headstock where it was used to hit a cymbal at a few gigs. No dents or scratches that effect the playability.

The body is pretty heavily reliced, loads of checking on the finish. Plenty of buckle rash on the back, and the finish has been chipped away in a few places. The scratchplate is a bit warped, which is common with single ply ones. The tip near the control plate has broken off which is visible in the pics.

This guitar was used regularly by Danny Jones of McFly. He plays it in the video for "Please,Please". It is the only electric guitar used on the song "Just My Luck", and was also used during the Motion in the Ocean recording sessions. Live it has been used many times, at shows in LA and New York, UK tours including Motion In The Ocean, Up Close And Personal, and Greatest Hits So Far, where he used it for all three songs on the B stage. There are many photos of Danny with this guitar, just do a Google search.

Here's the video featuring this guitar.

The original strap buttons have been replaced with Schaller Straplocks, an Ernie Ball nylon strap is included. The tweed case is pretty filthy after several years of gigging, but is in perfect working order.

This is a great Tele, which has proved itself live in front of tens of thousands of people. Really easy to play because of the top loading bridge, sounds really good, and looks so cool!
