Mehta & The LA Phil –
Holst THE PLANETS –
Decca ffss SXL-6529 of CS-6734 – UK Pressing –
ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY STUNNING! -
Recommended by TAS
I had just finished setting up a pair of Dahlquist DQ-10s in my hi-fi shoppe, when my business partner walked into the sound room with:
“I’ve got something I want you to hear!”
Well, suffice it to say, I was pinned to my seat as Mehta and company took me out past Pluto.
Extraordinary sound here, the breadth of the stage enormous, the definition ungodly. Among few records, anywhere, from anyone, that can quite literally take over your listening room.
Not to be missed, this is the original Decca edition, an ffss UK pressing, in very fine shape. Laminated cover without major fault, save for a hint of ring and a tear on back (price sticker?). Record inside -- a UK platter -- should play near mint.
If you have not yet heard this recording, it is incredibly special. Worthy indeed of the very finest audiophile library.
For other fine records, TAS picks and hard-to-finds, please see my complete list of offerings here on eBay.
Shipping and handling is $5 for up to 5 LPs shipped within the States. Internationally, $15 via airmail for the first LP, $3 each thereafter. (Canada is half that.) Boxes over 4 lbs., add another $6, because First Class is no longer available at that weight, just Priority Mail. Note, too, boxed sets of LPs require more postage.
