This handsome, rare and little-known limited edition album – a stil-sealed copy – issued by the Southern California Symphony Association (SCSA-1, US RCA pressing, label iteration unknown – presumably the white dog RCA label as shown on Discogs, stereo) features conductor Zubin Mehta and the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra in what were the very first recordings made at the Pavillion of the new Los Angeles Music Center. Those these recordings would later be issued by RCA itself (LSC-2816), this is the rare original release.

The LAPO play with outsize virtuosity and these are richly characterized and truly colorful performances recorded in demonstration quality sound.
The head of production was veteran Richard Mohr, and the engineers were Anthony Salvatore and Frank Trupia.
From Discogs one learns the interior panels of the gatefold jacket contain extensive liner notes by Michael Davenport – printed in English only. The memorable cover photo of Mehta was taken by Jerry White, while the album design was executed by Carson / Roberts / Inc.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is near-MINT. There is minor bumping at corners, but that is all – otherwise, the album appears as new – overall, a truly excellent collector's copy.
The condition of the LP is MINT. This is a still-sealed, unplayed copy – the ideal collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
