Description
Mercury Records Living Presence Stereo catalog # SR 90103.
Two 20th Century works for orchestra, performed by the Eastman - Rochester Orchestra, conducted by Howard Hanson.
The first work is Roger Sessions' "The Black Maskers", a suite from the incidental music for Andreyev's drama. The suite has four movements:
- Dance
- Scene
- Dirge
- Finale
The second work is Colin McPhee's "Tabuh-Tabuhan" toccata for orchestra. This piece is in three movements, and is inspired by the composer's four years of musical research in Bali, and, to quote the composer, "is largely inspired, especially in it's orchestration, by the various methods I had learned of Balinese gamelan technique." The movements are:
- Ostinatos
- Nocturne
- Finale
The vinyl is in excellent condition. Play surfaces are super-clean and free of marks. I grade the record near-mint (NM). Sleeve is also excellent, with just a hint of ringwear, but no creases, cuts, writing, or splits. There is some discoloration along the right edge, possibly from tape residue. I grade the sleeve VG++.
