Merv Griffin Christmas City Very Rare Promo 45 RPM Made 2 Promote Duluth Parade
Original 1960s advance pressing. Disk near mint.
This offering is for an extremely rare Merv Griffin 45 rpm record which may have been offered initially on a promotional basis only as part of an effort to promote the Christmas Parade held in Duluth in the early 1960s.
In the early 1960s songwriter Don Peterson approached Bob Rich, who was the owner of radio station WDMS, the promoter of the Duluth Christmas Parade as well as several charitable events designed to promote the idea of Christmas. Bob Rich then approached Merv Griffin, a young singer who had not yet made his fortune as a TV host and mogul. The two songs on this record were evidently pressed on Bob Rich’s own WDMS label.
