Description
This is part of a big auction full of 1950's blues and R&B 45's that I'm running this week. There are many rarities from Peacock & Savoy as well as several from smaller labels. Lots of gems here! Keep an eye on the store as well, I'm doing a jazz 45's auction starting in early February.
Here's the info on this item:
Release: Elmore James - I Believe / I Held My Baby Last Night
Format: 45 rpm 7" single
Year: 1952
Notes: I believe (no pun intended) this is a promo release of the classic 1952 blues 45 on Meteor. Here's what I know, the label is definitely light gray. It's not faded or color transferred in any way. There is some scuffing on the label from it sliding in the sleeve that's over the gray. The matrix numbers are correct: 45-5001 257 & 45-5003 257. The vinyl clearly has the vintage feel, it's not a recent bootleg or repro. The record was acquired from radio station stock that had many many promo 45s.
It could be that that is simply another color variant on top of the yellow and maroon versions, but the light gray certainly keeps with the cost saving practice of the day of printing light colored labels on promos to save ink. If this was a production variation I would think it would be better known. There is no text indicating definitively that this is a promo.
Take a look and see what you think. I will update this listing if any definitive evidence surfaces. At the very least it's an awesome label variation that is not yet widely known.
Vinyl Condition: VG+, vinyl itself is in nice shape with just some scattered light superficial scuffs. This is not a super-high-fidelity recording, but what's there plays great with nice sound. No ticks/pops/skips. The label is mostly clean, but does have some minor ringwear. See pics for exact details. I would call this one a weak VG+ and maybe a strong VG if you are being super strict.
Sleeve Condition: VG, has some wrinkles, but no tears or splits. Pretty nice overall.
Thanks for looking and keep an eye on my store as well, I'm doing a Jazz 45's auction starting in early February which has several Blue Notes and some cool rare EPs.
I want buying from me to be a good experience for you. I also know that condition can be very subjective, so I encourage you to see pics for exact condition details and ask questions if you need additional information. As always, the item you see is the one you will get. Please see my feedback, I think that will show that I am an accurate and fair grader and make sure my customers are happy.
I will combine shipping for anyone who wins more than one item. If you do need combined shipping, please wait for an invoice before paying.
