Description
Michael Jackson – Thriller (1982 Original First Pressing)
Epic QE 38112 – PROMO COPY • EX Cover • Quincy Jones Misprint
Available here is a standout example of one of the most iconic albums in music history — a first U.S. pressing of Thriller, loaded with collectible details:
✅ “For Promotion Only” gold CBS promo stamp on back cover
✅ Back cover misprint – reads “Produced by Quincy” and leaves off MJ from producer credit (wow)
✅ EX cover – rare condition for a promo, displays beautifully
✅ Side 2 spiral gloss effect – a mastering quirk visible under light (no affect on sound. Play tested and sounds immaculate - probably the best sounding record I’ve ever played on my system)
✅ Ultrasonically cleaned Near Mint minus vinyl
✅ Original printed lyric inner sleeve included
✅ First pressing matrix numbers (PAL 38112-1E / PBL 38112-1G)
These are early lacquer cuts from CBS / Epic pressing plants. The 1E / 1G suffixes indicate early stampers — possibly within the first few thousand copies produced. Most mass-market pressings from the mid-to-late ’80s and beyond have higher letter codes (like -3J, -4B, etc.)
A beautiful copy for the serious collector or audiophile. These promo + misprint editions in this condition rarely surface.

🛠 Condition:
• Vinyl: Near Mint minus (NM-)
Very clean, glossy surface with only a few extremely light, superficial marks visible under bright direct light. These do not affect playback and are purely cosmetic. Plays beautifully with no notable noise. Ultrasonically cleaned for optimal fidelity.
• Cover: Excellent (EX)
Strong gloss, clean surfaces, and only minimal edge or corner wear and lower front corner scuff. Promo stamp is crisp. A rare find in this condition — suitable for display.
• Inner Sleeve: EX
Original printed lyrics sleeve. Minimal wear, no splits
• Visual Note:
Side 2 of the record features a subtle spiral gloss pattern — a unique visual artifact from the original lacquer mastering process.
Playback & Grading Notes
I’ve play tested this all the way through. It is one of the best sounding albums to play on my turntable. Sounds better than the majority of records I open from shrink brand new.
This record was visually inspected and play-tested on a recently serviced Pro-Ject Debut Carbon turntable equipped with an Ortofon 2M Blue stylus. Playback quality may vary depending on your individual setup, including cartridge type, stylus condition, tracking force, and speaker system.
Vinyl is graded conservatively under strong light using the Goldmine Standard (Sleeve / Vinyl). While I do my best to note any flaws, your results may vary depending on your setup. Promo copies, older pressings, or those with original inner sleeves may also include factory or storage-related imperfections. Please reach out with any specific questions before purchasing.*
