Description

I'm very pleased to offer a package of Midnight Oil vinyl records and promotional materials from the late 1970's/early 1980's.

This is part of a vast collection of 1970's/80's Australian rock records and memorabilia that has come to us from the estate of a gentleman who booked bands in the Geelong area during that time, mainly for the Waurn Ponds Hotel, then a rather lonely outpost on the Princes Highway as you head towards Colac (now a pokies venue in amongst housing estates - ahh, development).  This gentleman booked many of the great bands of the time (and some of the not so great as well) including Midnight Oil, The Sports, Mental as Anything, Flowers (Icehouse) and Cold Chisel, just as they were reaching their heights.

The material here covers 1978 to 1980 in particular.  Midnight Oil were booked for their Waurn Ponds Hotel appearance on June 17, 1980.  This was part of their "Advance Australia Tour" and was about a year after their second album "Head Injuries" had been released.

As part of the promotional package there were posters, press releases, press clippings (some dating from prior to the release of their eponymous album in 1978), and copies of the first two vinyl albums "Midnight Oil" and "Head Injuries".

There are more items as part of this package than can be displayed in the gallery of pictures.  Here is a brief description:
1. Vinyl Album - Midnight Oil.  Released 1978 on Powderworks.  Serial No MLF 233.  Cover is in very good condition (in plastic sleeve), inner sleeve is included.  The vinyl is in near mint condition and should play well.  Songlist: Powderworks; Head Over Heels; Dust; Used and Abused; Surfing With a Spoon; Run by Night; Nothing Lost-Nothing Gained.

2. Vinyl Album - Head Injuries.  Released 1979 on Powderworks.  Serial No MLF 322.  Cover is in good condition, inner sleeve is included.  The vinyl is in near mint condition and should play well.  Songlist: Cold Cold Change; Section 5 (Bus to Bondi); Naked Flame; Back on the Borderline; Koala Sprint; No Reaction; Stand in Line; Profiteers; Is it Now?

3. Promotional Photographs.  These would have been supplied to venue by Midnight Oil's promotor/management.  Included:
a. B&W Print of band live with title block.  255 x 205mm
b. B&W print of band live, no title block  255 x 205mm
c. B&W print of Peter Garrett as per cover of Head Injuries with title block  255 x 205mm
d. B&W print of band live, no title block  255 x 205mm
e. B&W print of Peter Garrett with title block (pictured)  255 x 205mm
All photographic prints are in very good condition

4. Promotional Materials.  There is a range of materials included:
a. Small Poster sized press release and dates - red print "march to mecca", 1980, released by Nucleus Headliners Australia and Australian Concert Entertainment (pictured).  Has a staple mark top and bottom right hand side other wise in good condition.
b. 2 copies of biography on Powderworks letterhead.  1980.  2 page, stapled, US Letter size (page 1 pictured).  One copy has edits by local venue promoter, second copy has small typo corrections.  Very good condition.
c. Cut up press release, 1980.  1 page, B&W print on buff paper, Foolscap size (cut) issued by Nucleus Headliners Australia and Australian Concert Entertainment.  Good condition.
d. Range of photocopied press clippings from 1978 to 1980.  Some are dated with the name of the publication, others not.  A small range of the 14 items included are pictured.
e. A B&W print on buff card, folded - VIP RIP MO 10.4.1981, 1 Phoenix St Brunswick on a gravestone on the cover.  Inside, by way of explanation, it says that the VIP Lounge at the infamous Bombay Rock in Brunswick is disappearing and Midnight Oil will be the final act on April 10, 1981.  Given that Midnight Oil's performance in Geelong was 1980, this must be a special release/invite sent to the venue promoter which he kept.

5. Posters
a. 2 x Promo posters for "Head Injuries" (pictured).  Double sided with promotional material on reverse. Very good condition (rolled).  750 x 510mm
b. Promotional Poster for "Head Injuries Tour" (pictured).  Good condition (rolled).  980 x 685mm

That's it - quite a collection.  Postage arrangements will be in two packages - one tube with the posters and a flat pack with the other material.

We have a variety of collectables, as well as a large range of rare and interesting items, so have a look at http://howbazaarantiques.com.au
