Description
MIKE WESTBROOK ORCHESTRA - 'MIKE WESTBROOK'S METROPOLIS'
Composed by Westbrook and recorded by an ensemble of 23 musicians in 1971 with every one of them at the top of their game.
Despite being relatively little known by Jazz fans worldwide, few jazz albums come to close to matching this 'Brit-Jazz' classic.
Critically acclaimed and described as being "full of pathos and expression with not a single dull moment from start to finish".
This 1971 UK 1st pressing on RCA's progressive NEON label (NE 10) is SIGNED inside the gatefold by the composer and TWELVE of the musicians - more or less the entire core of modern British Jazz:
- Mike Westbrook - composer/piano
- Mike Osborne (d.2007) - alto saxophone
- Alan Skidmore - tenor saxophone
- George Khan - tenor saxophone
- John Warren - baritone saxophone
- Kenny Wheeler (d.2014) - trumpet
- Henry Lowther - trumpets
- Malcolm Griffiths - trombone
- Paul Rutherford (d.2007) - trombone
- Gary Boyle - Guitar
- Harry Miller (d.1983) - bass
- Alan Jackson - drums
- Norma Winstone - vocals

Labels: EXCELLENT +
Visual: EXCELLENT +
Exceptionally clean, deep-gloss playing surfaces on this well-looked after copy, both of which are unmarked in daylight with just a few harmless wispy marks from the inner-sleeve visible beneath halogen light.
Sound Quality: EXCELLENT +
This carefully but little played example plays superbly with just a trace of low-level vinyl backrgound in some of the quieter spots, but no trace of any groove/playwear, clicks, pops or any other audible distractions or faults.
Cover: EXCELLENT
Clean & fully intact with minor shelf/storagewear but no major faults. The signatures inside the gatefold are clean, unhurried and in various inks. All seams are unstressed & the spine retains all of its text. The original retailer's sticker is adhered inside the rear leaf's pocket.
Inner-sleeve: EXCELLENT
Some light wrinkling from storage but no writing, tears or seam splits.
