Miles Davis All Stars "Walkin'" – 1986 OJC Re-release SEALED

And now!  Dr. John's Spin Factory offers up a brand new copy of one (of the) great jazz recording(s) from the 1950s--  Walkin'.   Laid down in 1955 by Miles Davis and his "Allstars" (each of whom would go on to record as leaders), Walkin' was not only a fresh, top flight outing, it was engineered and recorded by the Deity of Jazz Recording himself, Rudy Van Gelder.  And, as noted, the copy you see in the pictures, the 1986 re-release, sourced and re-mastered from the original tapes, is SEALED.   If you're thinking, oh my...I think I need to own this record...Then you, my friend, are a true fan of truly great, well-recorded, superlative sounding jazz.    
There are very few albums about which I can and will gush approval to the extent of sounding a bit silly or childish.  This, however, is one of those cases; I make no apology.  Now, to be sure, I have never heard either of the original, 10" Prestige  albums that comprise this 12" LP (which, if clean, should be stupendous) and don't expect I ever will.  And, if I never have that opportunity, I'll be just fine.  Why?   I own an identical copy of this album up and it sounds totally and beyond AMAZING. (Visual Easter Egg: If you look at the photo that shows the sealed edge of the LP for sale, you will see my 1986 copy in the background.)  The definition, the dynamics, the crispness of every note (regardless of volume), the authenticity of the instruments (e.g., woodiness of the bass), and the sheer joy of the musicians making their music (that brings a smile every time) in sum clobber the two other versions of this album that I own (including the 1989 Felton and 2022 Gray), both of which sound pretty good.  Plus this: Maybe the copy I play here at home on my Well Tempered turntable is an anomaly.  And, my copy is super clean!  It has virtually no tics and pops compared with either of the newer vinyl discs.  What we have here is the grandest of great records, which means it holds 1) tremendous music, that is 2) superbly recorded, and is 3) pressed on quiet, flat vinyl.  (Just love it when this happens...)
A note about the appearance of this album.  It looks as new as a 40-year-old record album can look.  It is as flat as a pancake with no impressions in the cardboard jacket from the vinyl within.  The only extremely minor bit to note: The shrink wrap seam is not entirely straight and does not follow the jacket's opening--see photo.  (That's how it was manufactured.)  The fact is, this album looks exactly as it did the day I bought it in 1986 from Flipside Records in Kalamazoo, Michigan some 40 years ago (what a tremendous store it was--thank you Scott).
