Description

Miles Davis, "Collector's Item", Esquire 32-030, Jazz Vinyl 12 inch, Rare record.

This is a rare record on the Esquire Records label with Record Number 32-030.  I have had this record from new in the fifties.  It has had almost no play in recent times and as I am now in the process of decluttering someone else should enjoy the record.   The record is Mono.

There are two Groups on the record, which were recorded three years apart with examples
of fairly early Miles.
a)     A Sextet of Miles Davis (Trumpet), Sonny Rollins (Not on Midnight) & 'Charlie Chan' (Tenors),        Walter Bishop (Piano), Percy Heath (Bass) and Philly Joe Jones (Drums), who were recorded on        30th January, 1953.        The tracks are:
1. The Serpent's Tooth Take 1     6:59
2. The Serpent's Tooth Take 2     6:21
3. 'Round About Midnight            7:034. Compulsion                              5:43
Charlie Chan (Parker?) was playing Tenor for only the second time on record.  He was under contract to another record company, hence the pseudonym.

b)    A Quintet of Miles Davis (Trumpet), Sonny Rollins (Tenor), Tommy Flanagan (Piano),
Paul Chambers (Bass) and Art Taylor (Drums), who were recorded on 16th March, 1956.       The tracks are:

5. No Line                                    5:39
6. Vierd Blues                              6:55
7. In Your Own Sweet Way          4:34

Condition is Used but in Excellent/Very Good condition for cover and record.
