Notes from Album Cover: "In view of related recognition given to jazz in the country of its birth it is not altogether surprising that the first really worthwhile use of jazz by a film producer should have been in France. This was when John Lewis was commissioned to write the score for "Sait-on jamais"relelased in this country under the title of "No Sun in Venice") and actually recorded the sound track of the film with The Modern Jazz Quartet. The success of the experiment emboldened others in the film world, and when he was touring France, Miles was engaged to play a background score to the film Ascenseur puur l'echafaud," the results of which are presented on one side of this record."
