I get why folk purchase MFSL copies - I love MFSL [don't get me wrong]. But do they, or rather can they, go back to the original 1959 master? Not sure. Sixty years have passed. Sometimes the artist's estate don't want anyone even going near the original masters. My hunch is to get a great 'revealing' copy of this CLASSIC you need to go back to an early copy. A 1st press on Fontana would be nice! But this is a highly sought after title. I see someone on here has a USA 6-eye for an eye-watering £5k [lordy!]. A clean early copy on CBS which has been carefully used is only a few years from the original master. Degradation is unlikely to have occurred in this time frame.
An original 1964 copy on early CBS labels. Textured with that early 60's large "33" format. matrix A1/B1. Publishing is mentioning 'copyright control' . Nice heavy-set pressing. If you're looking for great audio - this badboy can deliver it. The vinyl comes housed in an original Mono flipback cover. We also have a mid-sixties CBS advertising inner sleeve. For maximum protection we will ship in a Nagaoka anti-static inner sleeve. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex-) In really nice condition and has only seen light use. Under close inspection I can only make out a couple of trace marks [more like bag-rash level if anything]..certainly nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with just slightest deviation in the odd spot. Intros and inbetweens are lovely and quiet and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. Audio is what I would call 'special'. You don't get this sort of reproduction with warmth and presence from latter day reissues. No matter how good the tech used in the chain is. All I could detect was a touch of what I would describe as 'low level presence' as 'So What' rolls in. Nothing upfront at all - this is low in the mix. If it were a rock title I might not even be mentioning it. Just a touch, again, in the quietest moments of 'Blue Green'. A couple of very minor ticks in the 1st section of 'All Blues'and a couple of tiny ticks toward the end of 'Flamenco'. What I like best is the ambience - the clarity on the percussion and the purity in the brass. A really nice clean player. Certainly not perfectly clean - but given the vintage...highly impressive.
Cover (Ex-) Very respectable considering the vintage. A very clean and flat front with just a couple of minor surface level creases and some sticker residue top right. The rear has avoided much of the ageing process - just a couple of low level foxing marks in places. Flipbacks all intact and secure. Very little edge wear and the spine is 100% intact. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Ex-) Lightest ageing. No splits.
