Description
Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab Original Master Recording, MFSL 1-177, half-speed mastered from the original Columbia stereo master tape, specially plated and pressed on JVC High Definition Super Vinyl in Japan, cut on the Ortofon cutting system. Long out of print, with specialist dealers asking $299 for their last copies.
The 1961 sextet session that bridged Kind of Blue and the second great quintet: Miles with Hank Mobley, Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers, and Jimmy Cobb, plus John Coltrane returning as a guest to tear through the title track and Teo. Trane's solo on Someday My Prince Will Come is one of the most celebrated cameos in his discography, two choruses that stop the record cold. The cover features Frances Taylor Davis, Miles's wife, whom he insisted Columbia put on the jacket. Produced by Teo Macero, Bob Cato cover photo, Vernon Smith back photo of Miles at the mic.
This copy is complete the way the MoFi crowd wants it: heavy duty MFSL jacket with the pink Original Master Recording banner, original static-free rice paper inner sleeve, protective outer bag, and the fold-out MFSL Sound of Excellence catalog insert with the full album, cassette, and early compact disc listings, plus the UHQR and Sinatra box promo. Condition
Vinyl: Visually NM. Deep glossy JVC Super Vinyl, appears barely played. White MFSL labels are pristine.
Cover: NM. Sharp corners, bright banner, no ring wear visible, housed in its protective bag since purchase.
Extras: Original MFSL rice paper inner sleeve and fold-out catalog insert included.
