Miles Davis--Bags Groove, Mono Prestige 7109 A-Side: Miles Davis (tr),  Milt Jackson (vibes), Horace Silver (p), Percy Heath (b), Kenny Clarke (d). Recorded 12/54. B-Side: Rollins (ts) replaced Milt Jackson. Recorded 6/54. On the dead wax: 'RVG' stamp, 'AB' stamp on both sides.
Vinyl: VG- ... Gruv's very mixed bag. The A-Side (two takes of Bags Groove) has quite frequent but low-volume ticking and some scattered slightly louder clicks on the 1st cut with some slight surface noise at spots. The 2nd track has some ticking at the starts but plays quite perfectly most of the way. The B-Side: 1st track starts fine then at the end a thud announces some low crackling. The 2nd track is a complete disaster, suitable only for those with definite masochistic inclinations. But after that, a bit into the 3rd track and through tracks 4 and 5 it plays very well with just a few scattered low-volume ticks. Does that add up to VG-?... The vinyl has some sheen (it does not have that faded "used-up" look) but obviously there are multiple marks.
Sound Quality: Excellent... Despite all the defects the sound quality is intact and excellent (as is the case with all the early van Gelder-engineered Prestige records which were recorded at the van Gelder studio in NJ).
Covers: VG+... Thick cardboard cover. A tiny bit of fraying at a few spots along the edge and a 1/2" seam split starting from the jacket opening. A bit of age-related discoloration on the back. However very solid structurally, an excellent spine and the front graphic is bright, glossy and quite fresh looking. Overall a very nice jacket.
Combined shipping is always available with no mark-up--you just pay for what it costs to ship (and of course the more disks the less per record).
Packaging includes new audiophile inner sleeves, new outer sleeves, cardboard padding, bubble-wrap and a thick cardboard record box.
