Description

Bid On Classic Miles and Gil Evans on Vinyl!

Unlike arrangers who used orchestral settings as a false platform to "elevate" jazz. Evans was interested in exploring ways to combine composed music and spontaneous playing. Miles was a musician particularly attuned to the trumpeter's power to color, shade and give dimension to a note. Instead of using Evans' orchestra as a backdrop, he created from within in subtle, mesmerizing ways.

The MILES DAVIS/GIL EVANS COMPLETE COLUMBIA STUDIO RECORDINGS (Mosaic MQ11-164) includes master takes plus alternates from Miles Ahead, Porgy and Bess and Sketches of Spain, plus six tunes recorded for the Quiet Nights album, three recorded with singer Bob Dorough and Wayne Shorter (two years before Wayne officially joined Miles's band), compositions for a play that were never used and a previously unissued composition from 1968 with quintet, woodwinds, brass, mandolin and pedal steel guitar! This is a must-have set for vinyl lovers! The majority of the music (on records 2 through 7) derives from analog masters. This long out-of-print, mint condition set includes 11 Q-LPs (180 gram audiophile LPs). The enclosed booklet includes:

  • Photographs from the actual sessions.
  • An exhaustive discography by Phil Schaap.
  • Essays by George Avakian, Bill Kirchner and Bob Belden.
