Description

This is a unique piece of poetry and promotional ephemera produced by Moondog, aka Louis Hardin.

A pamphlet bound with brown string, knotted on the exterior. Covers + 26 pages of text.

Front cover is blank.
Inside front cover (see picture) reproduces Moondog's "signature of late", Odin's octopede Chlepinir.
Title page (see picture) illustrated in black letter Gothic font.
Title page verso shows picture of Moondog at work on this Yearbook.

Then follow 40 cantos of 9 couplets apiece, plus five more couplets.  Each canto corresponds to one week and each couplet corresponds to one day.
The arrangement follows Moondog's calendar of 36-day months, 4 weeks of 9 days each, plus a 5-day Saturnalia.
One sample page is shown (see picture).

The work concludes with a note on the calendar, a comparative calendar, and a "Universal Reckoning by Louis Hardin" laying out his ideas about reckoning forward and backward in geological time.
"To Science and Religion-Geocentric reckoning is offered in exchange for theocentric reckoning."

Rear cover (see picture) shows photo of Moondog and text promoting his 1969 Columbia Records LP "Moondog".

I have not been able to find information on this pamphlet anywhere online.  "Moondog Yearbook" is not in Google, nor are any copies listed on Ebay, Amazon, ABEbooks, or Alibris.  None of the poetry is listed online either.

Condition is very good.  It's protected by a mylar plastic wrapper.  The inside front cover and title page have foxing but the rest is almost free of it.  The knots of the binding have pulled through the cover page and do not hold it securely, but the rest of the pages are solidly bound.
