MORLY GREY ~ The Only Truth (Starshine Records) 1972 USA While visiting a rumored to be haunted house, the band members saw an old painting in one of the rooms signed by one "Morly Grey" (possibly a different spelling?). Regardless they were inspired to use it as their band name. Quite appropriate as there are some rather spooky moments on this album fueled in part by guitarist Tim Roller's unique use of a violin bow over the strings of his LesPaul guitar while playing through an old Echoplex (tape echo machine). The end result was far more interesting than anything Jimmy Page had done previously using the violin bow and in fact Tim Roller's technique & sound is truly unique to this album. While Morly Grey where at times a power trio ...the album is far richer that that lable would imply. Truely all of the hot musicianship of a good power trio are indeed incorporated ..but the album isn't focused on "power". Songwriting and moody atmosphere are a very big part of this masterpiece, and nobody did it quite like Morly Grey. This is an absolute manditory lp for anybody into guitar oriented psychedelic music. Beautiful songs with tastefully played guitar passages throughout. The mysterious looking textured jacket is in NM condition, as are the poster and album itself. An absolute TOP copy.
There has been some confusion in the past concerning a "made to deceive" bootleg copy that was produced many years ago. Those are quite easy to spot if you know what to look for. This copy is guaranteed to be authentic. I live in the area, and know the original copies well. Please have alook at the close-up pictures I've provided.
