Up for auction is an all-around near mint condition copy of this wonderful 4 LP boxed set from the wizards at Mosaic records, MR4-131, hand-numbered copy 1951 of an edition limited to 7500 copies.
The LP sized outer box and LPs and labels are all strong near mint. Inner LP sized 12 page booklet, containing informative essays and discographical information, is also near mint. A really nice copy, and wonderful music, originally recorded for the Roost, Clef, Norgran and Prestige labels.
Little more need be said about Stan Getz that hasn't already been said, but this set is also a most excellent way to get acquainted with the guitar artistry of Jimmy Raney, an under-heralded bop master. The set includes the classic Getz/Raney Quintet recordings from Storyville in Boston, along with the music from five studio sessions. Other musicians in the set include pianists Al Haig, Horace Silver, Duke Jordan, and Hall Overton.
This set has long been out of print and doesn't pop up too often anymore, particularly the vinyl version (there was also a 3 CD version). Don't miss your chance.
