Description

THE BACHOPI CHOIR  Hambangi/Mandobela Kona  South African Columbia AE25  EE+  1933  When a joint Columbia-HMV field unit travelled to Johannesburg in late 1932/early '33, they went to City Deep Mines to make recordings of the indigenous music of several of the various nationalties of miners then working there.  These are wonderful examples of traditional singing backed by multiple timbilas (aka 'African xylophones'.)  Recorded 15 years prior to Hugh Tracey's better known 1948 timbila recordings as released on his Music of Africa LP series.  Glorious!

Please note that this record must be shipped from South Africa so eBay's normal shipping rates applicable to internal US shipments do not apply.  DO NOT SEND MONEY UNTIL YOU RECEIVE AN INVOICE!  I can ship winnings to any international destination from Albania to Zimbabwe.
