ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This handsome LP from La Voix de son Maitre (CVB 2037, French pressing, large dog semi-circle label, stereo) features Charles Munch and l'Orchestre de Paris (formerly l'Orchestre de la Société des Concerts du Conservatoire) in a brilliant and bewitching account of Berlioz's magnificent Symphonie Fantastique Op. 14 ("épisode de la vie d'un artiste"), recorded at the Salle Wagram, Paris during 23-26 October 1967, Winner of the Grand Prix du Disque · Acadmie Charles Cros.
L'Orchestre de Paris clearly felt a deep love and rapport for their veteran maestro and this performance certainly bears this out, with the players on truly inspired form. Produced by René Callan and engineered by Paul Vavasseur, the sound is warm, rich, and spacious.
This is core Munch repertoire and in this recording he arguably surpasses what he achieved in Boston (and elsewhere), deeply impressive as those two RCA performances remain.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is bumping/wear at corners, as well as slight creasing and discoloration/staining to the rear panel. However, there are no owners' markings, seamsplits, bends, or other defects, and the whole remains solid, bright, and glossy – overall, a very good collector's copy.
The condition of the LP is EXCELLENT. There are a few minuscule 'sounds', none really rising to the level of tic. If you must have a MINT or near-MINT copy, then it is probably safest to look elsewhere – this is an excellent collector's copy.
