Description

An historic important Beatles memorabilia. This is the sign of a Wine Merchant called Rigby and Evens Limited in King Street, Bristol which inspired the Beatle Paul McCartney to choose the Beatles song title 'Eleanor Rigby'   During a visit to Bristol in January 1966 to see Jane Asher appearing at the Old Vic, Paul McCartney walked past a wine merchant called 'Rigby and Evens' at no 22 King Street. He had already decided on the name Eleanor for the subject of his song in the making but was stuck for a surname. 'Rigby struck him as perfect. In his book 'Many years from Now' Paul remembers 'I saw an old shop called 'Rigby' and I thought Oooh, it's a very ordinary name and yet it's a special name, it was exactly what I wanted. So 'Eleanor Rigby'. I felt great. I'd got it. The return of this sign to King Street Bristol was welcomed by the Lord Mayor of Bristol with TV coverage. The sale of this brass sign includes the record Eleanor Rigby plus a photo of Paul McCartney all framed.
