My Insurance Man - RARE, WEIRD, & WONDERFUL 1968 industrial musical

If you've seen "Bathtubs Over Broadway" or read "Everything's Coming Up Profits," you know that private pressing "industrial musical" souvenir albums are some of the rarest and weirdest records in existence. These motivational musicals were only for dealers, salesmen, distributors and other industry insiders at sales meetings and conventions, and the souvenir vinyl records were not available to the public. And many of these shows boasted outstanding music and performances along with the bizarre corporate subject matter.

I'm the collector and historian profiled in the documentary "Bathtubs Over Broadway," and the co-author of "Everything's Coming Up Profits - The Golden Age of Industrial Musicals." I'm thinning out my stash of duplicates, and offering an assortment of records that range from the scarce, to the very rare, to the "you'll probably never encounter this again."
"My Insurance Man," with music by Bob WeDyck and lyrics by Arnold Midlash, was commissioned by the Continental Assurance Co. for the 1968 Key Club meeting, at which salesmen who'd met their sales goals were feted and urged on to greater heights of productivity. The album was distributed to Continental insurance salesmen as a memento and positive reinforcement of the meeting's messages.

The show's title referred to the notion that people get possessive about their professionals -- doctors, lawyers, insurance salesmen -- when they go above and beyond.
Conceptually, a musical about insurance sales sounds... maybe not so great... but with the best of these strange corporate musicals, the talent of the people involved makes it all surprisingly entertaining. The three person cast carries off the songs with authority.
Musical highlights that may get under your skin and into your brain (as happened with me years ago) include the title track, the emphatically rockin' "Taxes and Money," the evocative spoken piece "Dear Miss Smith," and the eye-opening "Overture and Welcome." Glorious 60's sounds we were never meant to hear.

The cover is STILL IN SHRINK WRAP and is accordingly in great shape. The back contains information about the show, cast bios, and photos. Very clean minty vinyl; if I had to guess I'd say it was played once. 
A beautiful specimen of a key example of this deliciously strange and secret slice of American musical and corporate history. A wonderful item for industrial show enthusiasts, insurance professionals, musical theater fans, and anyone who likes weird vinyl.
