Here is an Australian punk rarity from Brisbane satanic art punk KBD band fronted by Les Jobson ( later of metalcore unit Dreamkillers ) who were the only ever Australian act to be signed to the Alternative Tentacles label.

Raw, Gruff, Fast, Brash ….. more or less what you’d expect from a background exposed to and influenced by the late 70s Brisbane punk scene which spawned such legendary bands as The Young Identities, Bodysnatchers, Just Urbain, The Kicks, Fun Things, Leftovers, Upsets etc ….

These white “custom pressings” generally signify a limited print run of a couple of hundred and I understand only 250 of these became available. The label shows the bands original spelling of ‘Mystery Of Sixs’ (no 'e' in the Sixes) however this later changed in line with the bill poster spelling.

The press labeled them as a heady mix of death rock and hardcore punk though in gaining the attention of Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys) via Radio 4ZZZ they landed a support gig to the Dead Kennedys (Brisbane, 1983) along with the Black Flag inspired band Public Execution.

Mystery Of Sixes had gained a reputation for courting controversy and were banned by the Australian Broadcasting Tribunal …. supposedly for involvement in various acts of violence.

The band broke up in 1985 with lead singer Bez Jobson later forming punk/metal band The Dreamkillers in the early 1990's with other members of mid 1980's Pictish Blood, Insane Hombres and 1990's Psychotic Lemmings.

Rarely seen these days this ‘more post-punk than punk'n'roll’ is a fine under-produced gnarly psycho-stomper with pretty dark lyrics.

Along with the single comes an original (and even rarer still) gig poster from the Easts Leagues Club (Brisbane) promoting Mystery Of Sixes as part of their Friday 13th line-up (my best guess is in August, 1982). Another local band 'Prince Of Weasels' are listed here as the support act. I seriously reckon that there would be very few of these in existence today some 30 years on … let alone in such great shape.
