NAT KING COLE SINGS/GEORGE SHEARING PLAYS Half-Speed Remastered LP, Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab Catalog # 1-081
Condition: Vinyl Near Mint, played all of twice. Packaging Near Mint. Includes original soft poly inner sleeve. Recording originally issued by Capitol Records. Arranged by Shearing and Ralph Carmichael.
Behind the Music: George Shearing was one of the most sophisticated of pianists. What can one say about Nat ‘King’ Cole? If you don’t “get it”—the human warmth he exuded—then I suggest you listen to him some more. I liken that aspect of his singing to that of Billie Holiday and Willie Nelson. [TIP: Check out Willie’s album of Jazz standards called “Stardust.”] None of these are considered “technically great singers,” but they will win your heart every time. Or should, at least. Songs include “September Song,” “I Got It Bad (and That Ain’t Good),” “Let There Be Love,” “A Beautiful Friendship” and some not that frequently recorded, such as “I’m Lost.”
- About the seller: I am downsizing my personal belongings, and you can benefit. Unless otherwise indicated, all my records have been owned by me alone and treated with loving care. No scratches or gouges. I have been a Jazz radio broadcaster for 30+ years, but my musical tastes are wide-ranging. You will see this as my listed offerings grow month by month.
