NAZARETH'S COMMING of age album. 'Loud And Proud' showcases the band locking into a full on hard rock groove with guitars a blazing and vocalist Dan McCafferty literally coughing blood as he screams the house down. Produced expertly, by Deep Purple bassist Roger Glover the balance between material and performance is perfectly excecuted alowing every member of the band to shine brightly.

Kicking off with 'Go Down Fighting' the fist in the face approach is made perfectly clear and cleverly they don't take their foot off the gas peddle for the entire first side. 'Not Fakin' It' and 'Turn On Your Receiver' compound the energy level but it's the Lowell George penned 'Teenage Nervous Breakdown' that ups the anti considerably. If you've ever heard the original you'll be gob smacked at what Nazareth managed to do with this track - injecting it with high octane jet fuel and speeding up the tempo to almost speed metal levels.

Their are two other cover versions; Joni Mitchell's 'This Flight Tonight', a major hit single and a huge improvement on the original (how many cover versions can you say that about?) and the Bob Dylan penned 'The Ballad Of Hollis Brown' which is moved from humble folk protest origins into a metal dirge that would put Black Sabbath to shame without losing any of its atmospheric blues based origins. This is possibly the best Nazareth track that nobody ever talks about - McCafferty's vocals are so astounding that you can imagine the blood verssels in his face were about to explode with rage.

Highly recommended if you've nevr had the chance to hear this one before of if you've been dying to get your hands on a beautiful copy.

This auction is part of a fantastic collection of seventies rock which I was lucky enough to acquire. Most of these records were stored with the utmost care and sparsely played. Some were possibly never played or may have been for just a handful of times.

Vinyl: Beautiful clean and shiny condition - virtually no signs of any wear. No spindle marks. Grades as a lovely MINT-!

Cover: A beautifully designed and illustrated gatefold. Virtually no signs of any use. Sharp corners, no dings, no bends, no ring wear, no grubyness and no creases (vitually invisible crease to rear panel top left - I had to look very hard to see this). Nice straight spine. Just the merest hint of storage wear to rear. Beautiful and impossible to find like this 42 years after release. Grades as top Ex+
