About Sergiu Celibidache
Sergiu Celibidache was one of the most individual and uncompromising conductors of the 20th century. After World War II, he became closely associated with the Berlin Philharmonic, acting as its chief conductor in the immediate post-war period until Wilhelm Furtwängler’s return. Later, from 1979 to 1996, he became strongly identified with the Munich Philharmonic, shaping the orchestra’s international reputation.
Celibidache is especially admired for his spacious, deeply architectural approach to Bruckner. His performances are often associated with extraordinary attention to sonority, structure, resonance and long musical lines. Because he was famously reserved toward commercial studio recordings, historical and live-related documents such as this are especially valued by collectors.
About Rococo Records
Rococo Records was a Canadian label specializing in LP reissues of rare historical recordings, especially material from 78 rpm and cylinder sources. The label was introduced in the mid-1950s by Ross, Court & Co. of Toronto, a company associated with historic and European recordings.
For collectors, Rococo issues are interesting because they often preserve rare historical performances that are not commonly available in mainstream catalogues.
Condition
Vinyl: NM (Near Mint) Shiny records with beautiful gloss. Most sides appear barely played, nearly new, and are a real joy for collectors. Side 1 is graded carefully and conservatively as NM--, while all other sides appear visually unplayed or virtually untouched.
Booklet: NM (Near Mint) Crisp, fresh and wonderfully preserved, still with that subtle fresh print scent. Looks as if printed yesterday. A remarkably clean and elegant insert.
Box: VG++ (Very Good++) Clean and structurally sound original box with only minor edge wear. Visually appealing and well kept overall.
Collector’s note
A rare and serious Celibidache/Bruckner collector’s box. Particularly attractive because the vinyl is preserved in outstanding archive-like condition, with most sides appearing virtually unplayed.
