ALSO: I now apply the Ebay ‘2-day’ rule for non-payment to keep things moving – cash-flow is important for any small business. I will always keep my P&P prices as low as possible, and even after yet another Royal Mail price hike from April this year, I have NOT raised my prices and will never compromise on solid, safe packing that is invariably heavier than most you will get. My P&P offers probably the best value-for-money for vinyl records available, and I even will pay for full insurance on any record that sells for over £100 at NO extra cost – that is UK and abroad. Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Weight of these Records: 110 / 110 grams. Quite light, but pure vinyl with top sound and pressing quality.

Country of Manufacture: Germany for the UK and probably European market. Hardly uncommon for this time when most-all UK vinyl manufacturers had long gone. Records by now were getting a more specialised format.

Rarity: Scarce on vinyl. Most who bought this album did so on the now established CD format. Vinyl copies of this are seldom seen.

Brief Info: Not often seen on vinyl, this is a superb double album of mostly heavy loud electric Neil Young and Crazy Horse music. A blistering very long set – in fact this has to be one of the longest double albums I have ever seen with running times that defy the format itself. The duration of each side is as follows: Side one: 28:14; Side two: 29:20; Side three: 29.59 and Side four: 31:11. By any standards these are amazing times for vinyl, side four alone lasting longer than early Beatles albums in their entirety. So clearly getting this much music on each side means the grooves will be very fine, hence fragile and easily marked. But glad to state this copy appears hardly played, just one tiny mark on side two emits three or four light clicks and little else at all. Sound quality is high and all the energy and power of this full-on set is encaptured perfectly. This is Young at his electric best and even non-fans will enjoy this one.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT: arguably better still. An unlaminated gatefold format with shiny varnished surfaces. Printed and made in Germany.

Cover Cosmetic Improvements: None Apparent.

Cover Front: All very nice with little to fault: small tip rubs but any creasing or marks tiny and super fine and faint. This remains fresh and vibrant with lovely surface shine, under light a small sticker dull is seen, but totally invisible with normal viewing.

Cover Back: Largely the same, this has the embossed small W (Warner) logo near the bottom right corner area.

Cover Inner Gatefold: Practically perfect.

Top Edges: Barely worn, very straight and meeting flush. This has text on the front edge as per the spine which is unworn.

Bottom Edges: Barely worn again, no text on these.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, mostly sharp with little wear, any burring or thickening minimal, both are guaranteed untrimmed. Records entered on these edges.

Spine and Text: Solid and thick, straight with barely any compression and folded square, so the edges meet up very closely together and parallel. All text is perfect and unworn, any rub traces only near the very ends. These later thick spine covers are seldom seen uncrushed.

Corners: Most tip rubbing, as often the case, on the bottom right, but even here only quite small. Others are very small indeed with mostly very fine shape retained.

Cover Summary: A strong all-round example of this early 1990’s cover, one that could prove difficult to find much better. This attractive item should please many collectors.

The Inner Sleeves: EXCELLENT(++): two matching plain white unlined solid inners that are little short of as made. Clean, fresh, barely any creasing and no edge splits or repairs.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT(+): arguably better still. Incredibly fine grooves to store all this immense duration, this WAY over normal and must be one of the longest ever rock albums on record ever. So clearly these playing surfaces are even more fragile and unforgiving than most. But still a very impressive visual pair that are very clean with fine shine and fairly solidly pressed on quality German vinyl. A pair with minimal plays on all the evidence with any surface traces ultra fine and faint as seen with more scrutiny under bright angled light. Just one tiny mark on side two that emits three or four light clicks, mostly lost in the loud sound. Visually super records that should please most collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: Both records play even above their high visual grading with barely anything to fault bar the aforementioned minor, ultra brief clicks. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is very high with a full dynamic range and very detailed sound. Almost defying the duration in terms of audio quality, many long early 1970s compilations were often muted and dull sounding when they were too long, but this one sounds impressive. Any surface sounds are minimal indeed and this is an exceptional clean pressing as you would almost expect from Germany. Few copies will outperform this pair significantly I feel sure. I am certain both records have been played very lightly and have been generally well stored and carefully handled, almost certainly in a non-smoking environment. Nothing of any real note spoilt my pleasure when play-grading these scarce records. This set could prove difficult to find significantly better and can be strongly recommended.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional boxes (NOT Mailers, these do not offer any real protection). The record(s) are REMOVED from their main cover to avoid edge splits and placed within a brand new polylined inner. The record’s original inner will be included if available. SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
