Another from my personal collection! Purchased from new and initially only ever played to record to tape! This has been stored in a case with the vinyl seperated from the sleeve and cover, the way that I have always stored my records ,, which has obviously preserved the cover and vinyl for over 42 years!  The first thing to note, is that this is the rarest and original very first UK pressing which was only released for a very short period and then re-released a year later remixed! This pressing has the original mix! almost impossible to ever locate in any condition, but in this condition is a real dream for any avid Neal Young collectors, highly sought after and very collectable indeed!

The unique charactoristics of this album are the fully laminated Garrod & Lofthouse cover that does not feature the name on the front (later isses feature this)! Also this has the earliest possible matrix stamped on the run off grooves -1 -1 matrix endings (pressed from the earliest possible master) issued with the 1st issue 'large steamboat' Reprise labels (only 1st UK press) The final uniqueness is the original mix that was withdrawn because Neal Young didn't like the original finished version. This is what makes this issue so collectable because they are so hard to locate, especially in this condition, vertually unplayed condition a true archive copy!!!

Neil Young is the solo debut album by Canadian musician, Neil Young. Released first in November 1968 and then partially remixed and re-released in January 1969, This was Young's first album after his departure from Buffalo Springfield!!.

Many sources cite that Neil Young was released in January 1969, however the album was originally released on November 12, 1968 (Young's 23rd birthday). The first release of the album used the Haeco-CSG encoding system. This technology was intended to make stereo records compatible with mono record players, but had the unfortunate side effect of degrading the sound in both stereo and mono. Young was unhappy with the sound quality of the first release. So the album was partially remixed in January 1969 and then re-released without Haeco-CSG processing. The "Neil Young" header was added to the album cover; previously the cover art had consisted of only the portrait. These copies of the original 1968 version are now rare and highly sought-after and impossible to ever locate in this awesome top condition!!.

All songs written by Neil Young, except "String Quartet From Whiskey Boot Hill," written by Jack Nitzsche. Arrangements on "The Old Laughing Lady," "String Quartet from Whiskey Boot Hill," and "I've Loved Her So Long" by Young, Nitzsche, and Ry Cooder!!.

The Vinyl

On initial inspection of the playing surface This looks Awesome!  Still retaining its original deep glossy sheen from new!! LOOK SUPERBE! It is hard to even see a blemish! Any that could possibly be seen would be whispy sleeve removal marks, minor\minute scuff only!!!

The Audio Quality

 I have carefuly played this through track for track as usual prior to listing and the audio is truly awesome  certainly (no) jumps or skips CRISTAL CLEAR AND VIBRANT ON ALL FREQUENCIES! This is one of the best that you will find of this pressing TOP! TOP! AUDIO WILL BE HARD TO SURPASS! This sounds and looks like new in my opinion it has only ever been played by me three or four times only,,  certainly not overplayed!! Unbeleivable for an original, rarest 1st pressing that is 42 years old!!!! This is clear and vibrant with, of course (no) signs of distortion or that this has been over played at all!!!  In my opinion this looks and plays Top! on all frequencies!

Please note! I always add this disclaimer! I have given my honest opinion as usual when describing the audio quality. I heard no  problems Please allow for the odd isolated static\tick ! Please remember that this is an original 42 year old vinyl that has been played and would have originally been played on a 42 year old system and would benefit from a clean before each play!!

Points to note! This has been stored in a case laying dormant for at least 40 years! From my experiance this vinyl would benefit from a constant clean before each play! A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves over a period of laying dormant, produces static crackle\ticks and constant cleaning reduces this static and subsequently enhances the audio quality!

These are the original 1st issue 'Large Steamboat' Reprise  labels (correct for this earliest pressing) They are SUPERBE almost as new condition!!   It is hard for me to just barely see one spider mark when  angled to the light THIS HAS ONLY BEEN PLAYED BY ME  THREE OR FOUR  TIMES EVER!! (no) spindle ware the hole is perfectly round and very tight around the spindle hiole! (SEE PHOTOS) Amaizing Condition!

This is the original plain white poly lined  without splits or tares just light creasing with age! Original in superbe condition!

The cover

This is the original 1st issue  fully laminated Garrod & Lofthouse printed cover (no) name featured on the front (very rare 1st issues only) in near as pristine condition, looks almost like it did the day that this was purchased from the record shop 42 years ago! This has been stored in a case seperated from the vinyl in a case which has preserved this for all of this time! (no) ringware rubbing! Super, super glossy laminate!  There are no splits or tares (no) nasty handwriting and amaizingly no creases to talk of at all! Graded as near mint! Very rare like this!!
