George Wallington Quintet (George Wallington / Donald Byrd / Phil Woods / Teddy Kotick / Nick Stabulas) - The New York Scene (New Jazz NJLP 8027)
Rare original 1957 Prestige deep groove mono pressing of this bop monster. Powerhouse quintet featuring Wallington, Byrd, and Woods with Rudy Van Gelder production. Purple New Jazz labels with "Long Playing Microgroove" and "Prestige Records Inc., 203 S. Washington Ave., Bergenfield, N.J." address (same address as printed on bottom of sleeve). Hand-etched matrices "PRLP-8207-A/B" and stamped RVG.

Popsike finds about a half-dozen copies is similar or worse condition that have sold on eBay over the last 10 years, from $250-$675. Jazzcollector (http://jazzcollector.com/records.php?o_b=artist&o_d=ASC&s_f=title&data_search=New+York+Scene&submit=Search) finds two more, at $566 and $865. 
Disc is EX- (I find three small superficial hairline marks and a sleeve scuff between both sides, nothing audible). Vinyl very glossy and plays perfectly; I've played both sides through on my modest setup and heard no issues. Labels clean with minimal spindle wear. Sleeve is VG+ with shelfwear and rubbing to corners, top-right corner has 0.5" seam split, front and back still bright and barely age-tanned. Record has not been machine-cleaned.
Overall a very nice copy of a very rare and desirable record. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions or for more photos.
