THE NEW RIDERS OF THE PURPLE SAGE : "S/T" (Self-Titled) LP RARE
Columbia C 30888
1st 1971 US pressing.
This "The New Riders" debut album, features the legendary Jerry Garcia (Grateful Dead) on pedal steel guitar and banjo.
Spencer Dryden (Jefferson Airplane) joins on drums.
Executive producer of this album was Phil Lesh, bassist for The Grateful Dead.
The vintage of this pressing can be further verified by the matrix numbers hand etched in the dead wax, which read:
Side 1: PAL 30888-2 2-B (artisan logo)
Side 2: PAL 30888 1-A 0 (artisan logo)
Superb sounding wax both looks and plays "like new".
Super high gloss remains.
Labels are clean and bright, look "like new".
Original textured jacket is VG+.
Jacket front color artwork is rich and clear, sharp and bright.
In the white area surrounding the front jacket artwork, minor ring wear and light colored age stains are visible.
Jacket back color photo and text are rich and clear.
Jacket back shows minor ring/rub wear.
Solid seams, but substantial rub wear seen at left side of top seam.
Spine is solid ... but has small 1/4 inch tear near the word "NEW". (See photos.)
Spine print is clearly legible.
No splits.
Includes original company inner sleeve (entitled "The Inner Sleeve"), featuring capsule summaries of other Columbia releases of that era, in EX condition.

Here find the RARE first US pressing of The New Riders Of The Purple Sage debut album (well received by "Dead Heads" at the time as it featured Jerry Garcia) in primo condition. You will be very "hard pressed" to find another (unsealed) copy of this highly collectible LP in similar much less finer condition. Hoping this gem goes to a good home.
