In the store’s 20 year history, this is our first truly serious New York Dolls one-of-a-kind rarity. This is not a hokey-repress-picture-disk-after-the-fact-B.S.-cash-in commemorative-glam-rock-rip-off. This is the real thing.

This is an inside industry control copy, A-side only, pre-test press of “Stranded in the Jungle”. The single was released from the album “Too Much Too Soon” in 1974. This was acquired in a collection from an employee who worked for the record company and was involved in the production of the album. If you think this item is common, wait for the copycat sellers to put theirs up. Somehow, we don’t think this will be happening.

The Dolls never achieved commercial success in their day but history has given them their due recognition. Malcom McLaren road tested with the Dolls, later applying that knowledge to managing the Sex Pistols, and earning quite a bundle. David Johansen “made it” as Buster Poindexter, a subject too depressing to discuss. In any case, the New York Dolls were a truly great rock & roll band, this is a piece of their history. This is your chance to own it.

Sleeve matrix number corresponds to the matrix number pressed in the dead wax, also matches matrix and selection number on the original commercial label issuance. We believe “PRC” stands for Phonogram Record Company, the parent company of Mercury.
