Description

Hi, I am Mike, I have been a music collector for over 30 years now. I always still try to offer the finest and most accurately described and graded records I can find - I pride myself on offering a variety of genres to keep my site as interesting as possible. I will rarely offer any record that falls below a true Excellent grading, unless its of a certain rarity which will justify offering a lesser grade. I try, to the best of my ability to describe as accurately and as honesty as I can all items I offer for sale with all the relevant information I can think of to help any interested collector. You may notice I only submit one or two items a day for Ebay; time rarely allows more as I Play-Grade every record I offer (on a Rega 3 deck with Ortofon cartridge) - visuals alone do not always tell a true or full story - I will mention any defects or flaws no matter how small that I notice to be fair as possible to any interested collector. Every record I offer, whether it be a common or rare item deserves the same respect as far as I am concerned and will be treated the same - just because an item is rare does not always mean its good. A ten pounds record that plays close to new is as important to the collector as a 250 pound record that plays less well. All the pictures I use for your guidance are taken with a digital camera or scanned - they are NOT improved, cleaned-up or made better looking than they are with camera trickery or enhancing with digital programmes. What you see is what you get. I hope the item below is to your liking - any questions can be emailed and I will do my very best to answer you. Please assume all records I offer have NO jumps or sticks or writing on covers or labels unless clearly stated to the contrary. Good luck.

Please Note: I will now offer any item to the runner-up after the mandatory Ebay 3 days if no contact is made by the winning bidder. The same applies if no payment is received within the mandatory 7 days so any bidder who has just lost out can still email me to reserve the item as priority second chance. Item wants are always welcome - email me with anything needed, you never know - I may just have a copy in stock. I by quality single items and collections also (Email me please).

Debutant Bidders: Many sellers refuse first time buyers: I do not follow this practice (everybody has to start somewhere), but I would appreciate any first timer letting me know their intentions of payment method and very prompt communication, preferably before any bid or soon after the auctions ends. This gives confidence that their intentions are honourable, and I in return guarantee extra special good feedbacks to get zero rated Ebayers off to a flying start to help them with future transactions.

Please read all the information carefully - these adverts take an age to compile properly - so it’s well worth a few minutes of your time to read the details thoroughly. I really cannot take any responsibility if any bidder fails to read any facts that are clearly stated in the advert.

Artist or Band: NIRVANA

Album Title: All Of Us

Cat Number: ILPS 9087 Stereo.

Label and Condition: Island Classic original full pink with the eye logo and outline island. Rough textured finish and quite stunning. A gorgeous delicate ‘pretty’ pink. These are super clean and look marvellous. Around light(+), this is a slight guess because of the deep texturing spindle traces do not show up much, for sure they certainly are not heavy, there is zero wear around the centre hole which tells me only very modest plays. (Please see label scans for all information needed, the stunning deep texturing may even show up on a high-resolution computer screen).

Country of Manufacture: England, UK

Rarity: Very Scarce, getting rare now.

Genre Type: Psychedelic/Popular

Original Year of Release: 1968

Matrix Nos: ILPS 9087 A1 and B1. I can see no stamper codes. This is almost certainly a very first pressing.

Brief Artist & Album Info: Not to be confused with the loud US band of the same name - they are light-years apart in musical styles. But Patrick Campbell-Lyons deemed the name important enough to claim for a settlement for copyright infringement for the name Nirvana. This band made two albums on Island both in 1968, this is the second. Both are rare, make no mistake, these hardly ever show up and would rank as hard to find as any on this most famous progressive label. A band with modest sales again, like many psych bands around this time largely ignored, their albums, especially originals in fine condition are near impossible to find. Nirvana (UK) play quality, delicate pop-psych, addictive and original. This album is in fine shape all round, not perfect but the cover and record will please many collectors. More details below.

Cover Grade and Format: EX(-), single format, laminated front and back. , no printing credit. A rare and delicate piece, this more often than not, when found, is trashed. The black and white finish with silver text always fairs badly but this is quite nice.

Cover Lamination: Solid, shiny lamination that has no peeling or indentations. There is a narrow ‘dry’ line on the front near the spine edge but is almost invisible due to the colour. There are a few light to moderate creases but not so heavy as to detract or spoil too much. .

Cover Front: This looks fine, not perfect by any means, but quite nice. A few surface marks but little actual wear at all bar the already mentioned creases. This has no ringwear or hidden nasties.

Cover Back: Similar to front but better, minimal creasing or marks.

Top Edge: Unworn.

Bottom Edge: Virtually unworn.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean and unworn and no feathering. Record entered on right outside edge.

Spine and Text: Solid, but thin, text shows when viewing front on. It has little wear, text is near perfect and unworn under the uncracked laminate.

Corners: All four show a little wear, mostly on the very tips. All still nicely shaped.

Cover Summary: A very respectable all round example of this rare late 60’s cover, one that could prove hard to find much better. This strong item should please many collectors, if not maybe the perfectionists. But this one is sufficiently rare enough for even them to consider.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EX(-), Super clean and shiny, pressed on very heavy vinyl and jet black. Possibly undergraded really as this looks superb,I am ultra-cautious with the rare items. This does have some marks but virtually all are superficial and few sound at all. This massively thick and heavy record has deep grooves and modern styli get right in and simply ignore surface marks, even light scratches are bypassed and do not sound. This looks really lovely.

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This super record plays well above its visual grading, I still think I have undergraded this beautiful record. Strong, undistorted sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear. The odd faint tick or surface sound but almost too few to mention, this plays supremely well and little to nothing spoilt my first Nirvana experience via vinyl. A clean well pressed record, surface sounds were very low indeed, infact almost as low as vinyl gets for the most part. Play-grading this one was a pleasure and all the evidence points to the fact its been little played and treated quite well. Many early eye logo Islands are trashed beyond use for the reasons stated in my paragraph below, this is a real nice copy and again will please many collectors of the rare pieces. This copy could prove near impossible to find significantly better.

Mono vs Stereo, an overview: Always a matter of opinion which is better or more important. For any serious collector where there is a choice e.g. Beatles, Stones, Hendrix etc. both are essential. True Stereo albums give great imagery and presence whereas mono albums usually are more dynamic, louder and present the detail more clearly. Mono albums are far harder to find in genuinely top playing condition. Most were heavily played, particularly the truly great bands and artists, often covered in mark and scratches, many severe and labels that were a mass of spindle marks. The majority were played on vintage and unsubtle decks with heavy tonearms and thick styli (often sapphire, not diamond, that chipped more easily) that rendered heavy wear in a very short time to many a fine classic record. Wear to the delicate groove walls, particularly the innermost tracks to the labels were most vulnerable where the tracking angle became more severe and the backdrag actually stripped the delicate groove walls. This resulted in surface noise and mild/moderate distortion or worse. These old decks tracked by sheer weight and little of any refined engineering. Next time you see such a deck at a local record fayre, feel the weight of the arm, it almost makes you wonder how any records survived at all. The point of this paragraph is emphasise that when a truly clean, lightly played and great sounding 60s mono album (or stereo come to that) is offered, treasure it, because for sure they are truly getting vary rare and precious - beware - demand only play-graded records. As a general guide to rarity, mono was the far more common format from 61–65; Around 66–67 the balance was roughly equal, then from 68-69 the balance swung more to stereo, making monos from these dates far scarcer, even rare - this guide is important and effects values greatly.

Track Listing: Rainbow chaser; Tiny goddess; The touchables (all of us); Melanie blue; Trapeze; The show must go on; Girl in the park; Miami, Masquerade; Frankie the great; you can try it; Everybody loves the clown; St. John’s Wood Affair.

Album Played For Grading: Yes.

Final Summary: Yes an album that is pretty unlikely to turn up at your local record fayre these days. Early Jethro Tull, Traffic and Fairports may do occasionally (but in what condition), this one from the same period rarely, if ever will. So an opportunity to own a strong and beautiful looking copy of this ‘lost’ gem.Just take another look at those magnificent labels, these are pure class from that musically mind-blowing time. It truly plays very well indeed and unless unrealistic pure silence is wanted it will please most collectors I would think. – Mike.
