_____If you've all ready been initiated into the amazing world of Kenny Dorham with the trumpeter's Blue Note releases, here's an opportunity to acquire a title of obscurity. Though the AMG correctly rates this session 4**** of 5 STARS.... Few if any of your Jazz collecting pals will have, or even heard of this exciting, yet terribly forgotten Riverside date from 1959. The set features plenty of Dorham's varied and sophisticated horn work, and four of his hard bop originals. Spring's the theme, and Dorham responds with his standard "Spring Is Here," and three other tunes you'll grow to anticipate. The final track is a tribute to Adderley, who contributes a stunningly bright solo with his unmistakable tone. This great session will leave you with a sense of celebration, and satisfaction. This cohesive, yet short-lived Septet featured on Baritone sax, Cecil Payne -- French horn, David Amram and Cedar Walton piano. An essential title for any serious Jazz collector.
