Description

NORMAN GRANZ 1949 “THE JAZZ SCENE” 6 LP RECORD, ALBUM 78 RPM AUTOGRAPHED SET WITH 30 PHOTOGRAPHS
You are bidding on the rare, hand-autographed and numbered 6 record set of Norman Granz’s “The Jazz Scene”. There were only 5000 of these printed. This set was my father’s and it is numbered #1300. My dad was also a jazz musician in the 40’s and 50’s. He kept this under wraps the whole time, and I doubt if it was played more than a few times. This is the quintessential jazz recording and photograph set of the era. Norman Granz was commissioned to document the jazz scene at the time of the late 40’s. There are 30 black and white photographs of 1940’s jazz greats - all suitable for framing. The musicians covered include Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, Coleman Hawkins, Buddy Rich and Machito, among others. In addition, there is written biography information on the artists as well. This set is in near-pristine condition. There are no rips or tears on any of the pages, including the record sleeves. The only issue is slight discoloration on the lead pages and on edges. The records themselves show only slight wear.

The musicians featured and the photographs of musicians included:
Duke Ellington, Harry Carney, Billy Strayhorn, Neil Hefti, Lester Young, Buddy Rich, Coleman Hawkins, Ralph Burns, George Handy, Charlie Parker, Willie Smith, Machito, Max Roach, Bud Powell,Louis Armstrong, Roy Eldridge, Lester Young, Dickie Wells, Ella Fitzgerald, Gene Krupa, Teddy Wilson, Benny Goodman, Stan Kenton, Harry Edison, Illinois Jacquet, Oscar Pettiford, Mary Lou Williams, Count Basie, Art Tatum, Sarah Vaughan, Dizzy Gillespie, John Simmons, Billy Holiday.
