Rare GERMAN JAZZ JATP II 1960 CONCERT TOUR $ SETTLEMENT WITH NORMAN GRANZ (MILES DAVIS QUINTET) & THE GERMAN (DEUTSCHE) JAZZ FEDERATION.
Up for auction is this SUPER RARE Official 4 page JATP II Settlement Letter between the German Jazz Federation Secretariat (Frankfurt Germany), and Norman Granz (Beverly Hills CA) dated August 1960. (see first photo) The letter concerns the Ever historic famous 1960 JATP II Concert Tour of Germany in 1960 spearheaded by the great NORMAN GRANZ. JATP=JAZZ AT THE PHILHARMONIC

The 4 pages were typed on the original lightweight onion skin type paper used during that time frame and amazingly presents a detailed step by step breakdown of gross receipt and miscellaneous expenses (ex. tour program books, posters, radio ads, royalties, transportation, freight, photos etc) for each and every JATP concert performed in Germany by The Miles Davis Quintet and The Oscar Peterson Trio featuring Stan Getz between March 25th-April 2, 1960. Thirteen concerts in all are itemized , the first starting in Hanover, Germany and the last ending in Koln, Germany. (see first thru third photos)
This detailed original Paperwork/Letter for these Legendary & Historic Concert Tour indicates that Granz had already made 8 separate payments that totaled in the amount of $119, 500 to the German Jazz Federation and the GJF was notifying him of the owed balance of $11,712.25. A mere pittance in todays day and age, but a considerable amount 57 years ago. (see next tro last photo)
It also even includes the mention of a specific numbered V-check (767.60 DM) issued by the DJF (Deutche Jazz Federation) to Norman Granz for a 10% tax savings which even included some other concerts performed under Norman Granz’ watch in Germany performed by The Modern Jazz Quartet, Ella Fitzgerald, & Nat King Cole. The Miles Davis Quintet included: Miles Davis (trumpet), John Coltrane (tenor sax), Wynton Kelly (piano), Paul Chambers (bass), Jimmy Cobb (drums) These concerts noted in the letter also were the last ones before Coltrane departed from the Quintet and went his own way.

F.Y.I. Some of the paperwork noted in the pics of the paperwork refer to the Miles Davis Quintet as a Sextet as they originally were billed, as it was believed that Buddy Montgomery (vibes) also was performing, but because of his aversion to riding trains he did not actually join the German concert tour.
