I never grade any of my records as mint but each record has been played and thoroughly inspected, then graded on the below system, with slight variations (+ve or -ve) added where appropriate:

GRADING SCALE: 

 

MINT (M) ~ A perfect record, no marks, scuffs etc.  Very Few records will warrant this grade. 

 

EXCELLENT (EX) ~ Used and played but not abused!  Light scratches and/or paper scuffs.  Labels are very clean.  The record plays with very minimal surface noise.  Record is in a very collectable condition. 

 

VERY GOOD (VG) ~ A nice record but looks a bit more used and played with light scratches and marks.  Still plays well but with a bit more surface and background noise.  Fine for DJ'ing with.  The labels may show ring wear. 

 

GOOD (G)~ Well used.  A bit rough but still plays throughout without jumping.  Noticeable background noise but good enough to fill a gap in your collection until a better copy comes along.
