Description
R.C. & The Interns "Tell Me It's A Dream" (2:35) b/w "You Got Me" (2:30) on Wynwood Records WR-2212-A/B (these catalog numbers are etched into the deadwax). I searched and searched, and just couldn't find virtually anything on this UNKNOWN (?) and UNLISTED (?) Northern Soul 45 (read below for the details on what I could and couldn't find on this 45/group). I gotta say, these are 2 great upbeat songs and the play is really clean for it's age, and I can only imagine how HOT this group would have been to see live back in the day (I'm thinking of a real stage show, with choreography and everything, but that's my guess/dream). As you'll see in the photos attached below, both sides are listed as being produced by David Crawford, and although I have no way of confirming if it's him or not, there's a soul/R&B songwriter/producer named David Crawford, as well as Dave Crawford. Who knows, this may be an early production by David Crawford, although I just don't know if it's the same guy or not, so I'll leave it up to you to do the research if you so choose. I've attached a 3:35 sound sample of each song/side below, which is from the actual record in this auction, so make sure you give it a listen! As you'll see in the photos attached below, I've included close-up's on each label, and two different angles of the overall record in an attempt to show you the grooves/vinyl.
Please ask any questions regarding this 45 no less than 24-hours before the ending of this auction,
to allow me enough time to respond.
This is one fantastic 45 featuring 2 awesome Northern Soul tracks! Both sides featuring great, emotional lead vocals that just cut right through and have chorus hooks that'll have people singing along and remembering the lyrics long after these songs end. Also, ya gotta dig the great horns, guitar licks, drums and backing vocals... it all makes for one sweet classic Northern Soul 45!! Both sides just sound so crisp and well recorded, and will be standouts whether played at a DJ show, on a radio show or even your next house party!!! I'm sure once you listen to both sides you'll be hooked!!!!!
I have spent many hours searching on Yahoo, Bing, Google, YouTube and Shazam, as well as Northern Soul specific sites like John Manship's soul website, and chasing through links on numerous soul sites and blogs looking for information regarding this 45, and I found virtually nothing whether searching by "r.c. & the interns", "r.c. and the interns", "rc & the interns", "rc and the interns", "r c & the interns" "r c and the interns"!!!
While doing my research, I came up with some tiny, obscure tidbits of info on the band while searching on Google, which thanks to a newspaper scanning project, I found 3 performance advertisements in newspapers dated between 1967 - 1968. The printed text for these ads were as follows: "RC and the INTERNS the Hottest, Zoniest Recording Group on Tour Sunday 4-7 Admission $1.50 THE SOUL CAVE 770 Frederick St., Hagerstown Doors Open 7 P.M" (zaniest was misspelled), "RC and the INTERNS the Hottest, Zaniest Recording Group on Tour Sunday 4-7 Admission $1.50", and "Plunkett's Dining Room - Going wild this week-end - Friday Night - R C and the Interns - No Cover - Saturday Night Double Feature - R C. and the Interns on stage - Gary Jones & The Swing Masters on balcony - Live Broadcast Saturday Nite over WJEJ". With deeper searching I found an inclusion of "r.c. & the interns" on the Baltimore Sounds site, which lists bands from the Baltimore area ranging from 1950 - 2000, and includes the band in the list with the only notation that they were active in the 1960's. Searching by "wynwood Records", I found nothing on Yahoo or Bing, but through Google I found 2 links for a garage band who released a 45 through this label, which had a different street address in Baltimore (Marmon Ave.) than on this R.C. & the Interns (Biddle St.).
The sound samples you'll hear below are just as they came off the record, without any "corrective" digital editing or effects. From each side, I included a nearly 1-minute segment from 1-second before the song starts, through the intro and to the end of the first chorus, followed by segments of the break/bridge, guitar solo, and the full outro/fadeout, along with any standout moments. You'll notice that the points where I edited these portions together are not perfect, which I did to show that they were different sections stitched/edited together, and just to be clear there are no skips on this 45.
The light blue labeled vinyl on this 45 is in very good plus condition (visual grade) with light, whispy scratches, and has no deep, feelable scratches that would make a repeating noise, although you hear a couple instances of individual, minor pops per side. But I'm sure that once you listen to the attached clips, you'll hear that the audible grade is much better than the visual grade, which in itself is really in nice condition for what appears to be a 45+ year old Northern Soul 45. There is a light edge warp, but I'm sure that when you listen to both sides of this 45 in the attached sound sample, just like me, you won't hear any effect to the sound or play of this 45. Make sure to give a listen to the sound clips below to hear samples of each side of the actual 45 in this auction. There's a small 3/16" x 3/16" area of what may be a light air bubble to the A-side label at the spindle hole just below the word "Baltimore". There's a light darkening/storage wear to the B-side label, as well as a handful of tiny blank ink speckles to both sides. Please make sure to take a look at the photos below of each side of the label to view the label condition. This is a really RARE & COOL R.C. & The Interns/Northern Soul collectible, make sure you bid today!!!
