A nice condition copy of this increasingly rare and sought after 1970 UK 1st press jazz/rock classic on the coveted UK Vertigo (large) swirl label, 6360 008

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1  6360008  1Y//2  420  with stampers "1 1 9" at 5 o'clock

Side 2  6360008  2Y//1  420  with stampers "1 1 4" at 11.30 o'clock

The appearance and overall condition of the flat and nicely weighted vinyl is a solid very good plus (VG+). Both sides have retained an impressive jet black lacquered sheen and in normal daylight show no obvious sign of wear and tear - very impressive. Under a very bright light, and with close scrutiny, it is just possible to detect some wispy hairlines on each side of the vinyl, and on side 1 a slightly more pronounced 2cm hairline and a 4cm pencil thin scuff line come a little more easily into view, but all of these are very minor blemishes, non-"feelable", surface only and non-intrusive in terms of sound quality (which is terrific throughout). T

The labels are excellent (EX). Gorgeous condition labels with the coveted large Vertigo swirl logos (each label) and solid black text upon the smooth matt white background all beautifully intact. Under a bright light I can make out some small and very faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each label, but apart from that perfect!

The iconic non-laminated E.J. Day outer gatefold sleeve (with die-cut) is very good (VG). Such a fragile sleeve and prone to wear and tear and becoming hard to come across a UK 1st pressing in excellent condition or better. No obvious creasing and nothing nasty on this sleeve, and no unwanted writing or doodles or tears or rips, and still retaining the richness of it's original colouring with impressive clarity and definition, and the opening edges remain firm with no fraying, but there are nevertheless some blemishes : the top and bottom edges have mild intermittent scuffing and although each corner is still a nicely defined right angle there is noticeable scuffing on each, there are x8 1cm (or less) very light, horizontal surface creases on the front side adjacent and perpendicular to the spine most of which do slightly impinge upon the spine (though the spine itself remains firm), on the reverse side there is some very mild ring wear, the spine text is mostly legible but is interspersed with scuff marks, and there are a number of mild (but noticeable) abrasions caused by storage/shelf wear over the decades on both the front and reverse sides. The inside of the gatefold is in excellent shape, with all of the exquisite art work/photo, colours, and text beautifully intact. A solid "very good".

Finally, the quality of the audio is truly excellent (EX) and is the undoubted highlight of this LP. Impressive tone and clarity throughout, even at higher volume and on higher frequencies. No skips, jumps, repeats, or obvious clicks and no noticeable background crackle/interference either. This really is an excellent album and I am delighted to say that the quality of the audio really does justice to the quality of the music.

Comes complete with original, dated, poly-lined Vertigo swirl inner sleeve with "British Patent..." and "MADE IN ENGLAND" horizontal text. There is some minor creasing towards the corners and some mild browning/age discolouration adjacent to the edges, otherwise excellent condition with no seam splits or tears and remaining 100% fully functional. Note that I always post the record in a new plain white inner sleeve in order to protect the original.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl thick cardboard crucifix style mailer along with at least two cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
