AND HIS MANDOLIN
The Famous Nudie of North Hollywood, "The Rodeo Tailor"
gets together with some of his friends from way back on this Collector's Edition LP released in 1974
and plays some of Nudie's favorite country songs.
Produced by Cliffie Stone, with Smokey Rogers on banjo, Tex Williams on rhythm guitar,
Roy Lanham on takeoff guitar, Dusty Rhodes on bass with Nudie and Joe Carioca on Mandolin.
Back in the 1940s when Nudie was operating his clothing firm out of his garage in his backyard, Roy Rogers, Smokey Rogers,
Tex Williams and Duece Spriggins used to gather around for a country-style jam session with Nudie joining in on mandolin.
In fact it was Tex Williams who first wore one of Nudie's custom-made suits that got his business started in outfitting
the big-name country music stars in the 40s and 50s. He created the first Nudie suit for the young Hank Williams and has
outfitted Hank's son, Hank Williams, Jr.
In 1957 Nudie created the famous $10,000.00 gold lame suit for Elvis, the suits for the first release of The Flying Burrito Brothers,
with the late Gram Parsons, on A&M Records The Guilded Palace of Sin. He has outfitted the biggest Hollywood cowboy stars
for their films. In the 12-page booklet you will see photos of Nudie with Glen Ford, John Wayne, Lee Marvin, Robert Mitchum,
Van Heflin, Rick Nelson, Slim Pickins, Tony Curtis, William Holden and Michael Landon to name a few.
This is not only a musical tribute to Nudie now that he has passed at age 81 in 1984, it is a beautiful and personal
photographic history of one of the most unique, talented and influential designers in the entertainment industry.
I worked at A&M Records as a designer when the Burrito Brothers were recording that first album and Nudie would
drive that big Cadillac convertible (on the back cover) with the silver dollars embedded in the boot and door upholstery onto the
A&M lot (Charlie Chaplain's movie lot) in Hollywood and everyone would come out of their offices to "experience" Nudie.
This is a real collector's item.
The album cover and disc are in excellent condition, labels clean, looks un-played, no spindle marks.
