This is the U.S. Capitol Records box set of Nathan Milstein’s celebrated performances of Bach’s Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin, issued in 1962 as a mono reissue.

Milstein’s Bach is widely regarded as one of the most intellectually balanced, stylistically informed and musically honest interpretations of the Baroque repertoire on record. These performances have long been considered a reference for both collectors and violinists.

To allow precise and conservative grading, all sides were carefully cleaned and then placed into new Japanese Katta inner sleeves (no rice paper).

Vinyl – detailed side grading (conservative):

  • Side 1: weakest side of the set – stronger surface scratches, hairlines and scuffs; fully playable without issues

  • Side 2: strong VG++, light scuffs only

  • Side 3: VG++, one visible surface mark

  • Side 4: outstanding VG++

  • Side 5: VG++, light surface scratches

  • Side 6: strong VG++, very close to Near Mint

Overall, the vinyl shows honest signs of careful use, but remains a solid, musically excellent vintage set and clearly not low-grade or disposable.

Booklet:

NEAR MINT++ – exceptionally clean, sharp and fresh.
Still carries a subtle fresh paper scent, indicating professional archival storage by a serious collector.

Box:

NEAR MINT – vivid colors, no damage, no splits.
A visually impressive and well-preserved original Capitol box.
