Neal Ford was a prolific Houston-based artist. He formed The Fanatics in 1965 out of an earlier band The Ramadas, who had several 45s in their own right. Most of The Ramadas output pre-dates this book, but Life Is So Tough a powerful punker from 1965 is worth checking out.

They were still in their mid-teens, when they changed their name to Neal Ford and The Fanatics and they went on to produce a string of 45s, both punk and ballads, most of which were not on their album.

When the outfit disintegrated - Larnier Greig went on briefly to The Moving Sidewalks and the first ZZ Top line-up - Ford cut a solo 45 and then formed a new outfit, The Neal Ford Factory. He later played with The Sound Investment and Rick Mensik and was last reported running a Nashville-based talent agency.

Two more essential 45 reissues of awesome unreleased 1966 material, have been issued by Caped Crusader: Good Men / For You (CC-74) and Woman / I Can't Go On (CC-75) both in 1995.

Compilation appearances have included: I Can't Believe (a previously unreleased cut from 1966) and I Will Not Be Lonely on Acid Visions - The Complete Collection Vol. 1 (3-CD) and Acid Visions, Vol. 2; I Will Not Be Lonely on Mayhem & Psychosis Vol. 3 (LP), Mayhem & Psychosis Vol. 2 (CD), Flashback, Vol. 5 (LP), Texas Flashbacks Vol. 5 (LP) and Highs In The Mid-Sixties, Vol. 13; Shame On You on The Essential Pebbles Collection, Vol. 2 (Dble CD); Life Is So Tough on Acid Visions - The Complete Collection Vol. 1 (3-CD) and Acid Visions (LP); Mary Wanna Marry Me on U-Spaces: Psychedelic Archaeology Vol. 1 (CDR); She Is All There Is (previously unreleased) on Houston Post - Nowsounds Groove-In (LP); and Bitter Bells on Highs In The Mid Sixties, Vol. 17 (LP).
