DESCRIPTION: New Sounds Of The Corps Vol II – DJ radio play recruiting spots for The United States Marines ca. 1967. This is quite a unique pressing put out by the Marines and meant to be used by radio stations as public service announcements to run between station programming during the mid-sixties and at a heightened time of the Viet Nam War. The pressing has 10 different tracks that each “dead end” or spin in place until manually advanced much like a DJ would do with station LPs and 45s. The radio announcement spots are very, very short and the entire play time is 6 minutes 10 seconds. The pressing is one sided and has a number GXTV 220014 and Fourth Quarter on the label. It seems to play well and the cover is in vg to vg+ shape. This is a piece of radio history that once served the Marine Corp recruitment services and is in my honest opinion a very scarce item. Whether you served or are currently on active duty in the Marine Corp listening to these vintage recruiting spots will bring back memories of those days before you stepped foot on Paris Island. For those who served in the Marines during the Viet Nam war perhaps it was from one of these very spots that you “heard the call” and answered it. Semper Fidelis!
