First pressing of Bryter Layter and featuring members of Fairport, jazz players such as Lyn Dobson and Ray Warleigh and John Cale who features on viola and keyboards. Pat Arnold and Doris Troy on backing vocals. It's a strange album with both sides starting with an instrumental and side 2 finishing with another. I guess that would be lost in CD format.

A couple of weeks back Richard Thompson was on the new Folk Show on BBC Radio 2 and said his solo was the last part added to the number."I just worked around the brass which had already been recorded" said RT.  Good isn't he?

The sleeve is in good condition*. There is noticeable ring wear and the spine is worn with a split half way up. (Where the LP has been inserted a bit too vigorously.)

There is a plain inner sleeve which I don't think is original.

The disc itself is in good* condition. The main fault is a angular blemish on Side 2. This results in about 18 medium clicks over the last 30 seconds or so of “Fly” Other than that there is the occasional minor click and crackle. How do we grade clicks? Perhaps 1 could be someone in the studio clicking their fingernails whilst 10 would be firecrackers at Chinese new Year.

There is a name, in ballpoint, on the label of Side 2. This is an album which would certainly suit anyone named Nana.

(This album recorded on my Linn Sondek turntable using “Audacity”, exported as a 320 kbps MP3 file and uploaded into eCommerce Player. No editing whatsoever just a pause as I turned the disc over. It's all there from the moment the stylus touches down.)

Record Collector Magazine's Grading Guide:

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and / or defaced.

POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
