Nico - Desertshore LP RSLP 6424 (Reprise, UK, 1971)
Original UK Issue in textured Garrod & Lofthouse Sleeve, with mustard Steamboat Reprise Labels. A1/B1 matrices.
Condition (I Grade NM / EX / VG+ / VG / VG- / G / F)
Sleeve - VG Sleeve still looks nice and is still solid. Edgewear along top. Corners have got worn, and smoothed a bit. One of the previous owners has pasted a sticker saying "K44102" at the top right of the sleeve, obscuring the RSLP code. The sleeve has discolored a little in places, but not in a critical way. Rubric a little worn in places. The 'ic' in Nico has smoothed out.
Vinyl - VG The record has a nice lustre. Side 1 has very few scratches at all. Side 2 however is more marked and seems more heavily played - with one short feelable scratch on track 2 (plus some scuffing around it). There is some other scratches and what appears to be some "grit" in the vinyl itself.
Play isn't as bad as you'd think. The record does seem to have a low residual noise throughout - and this is quite a consideration for a record that relies quite a bit on silence. Fortunately, it doesn't interfere too much with the 'space' this album uses to such great effect. There is some slight rasp on Nico's voice at times and some inner groove distortion, but the music is pretty clear throughout. Side 2 has few clicks in places (2-3 high pitched ones in track two, a few more later) While it isn't the quietest / cleanest copy, it still has the power to pull you into it's bizarre vision.
Who Wants This? Despite the surface noise - this player still is a great listening copy, providing you have an ability to listen through. It's not ever too annoying though if you want a silent "deep listening" copy, this isn't the one for you. If you are after a vintage copy and want to "feel" the record and enjoy the music (though some people may say "enjoy" is debatable - i love it)- I can vouch this one still has that ability.

- I remove records from their outer sleeves to avoid splitting. All records are packed in a plastic sleeve for extra protection.
