Description

Nielsen, Carl.  Symphony No.1 (1892). Saul and David: Prelude to Act II.  London Symphony Orchestra Andre Previn, conductor. Kenneth Wilkinson, recording engineer.  ENGLISH RCA VICTOR TEST PRESSING SB-6714 Stereo (c1967). Codes URRS-1068-2K/URRS-1069-2K. This TEST PRESSING was manufactured by English Decca. DISC VISUALLY EXCELLENT/NEAR MINT--LIGHTLY PLAYED BY HAROLD. SOFT COVER ALBUM EXCELLENT. Ex HAROLD LAWRENCE.

One of Previn's early London Symphony recordings audaud.com writes "It is good to welcome back Andre Previn’s account from his early days with the LSO back to the catalogue. . . . Previn’s account is suitably energetic in the outer movements, though the Andante second movement is perhaps a little too lovingly done. The brief prelude to Act 2 of Saul and David is stirring and makes a fine encore if you programme it last, as it appeared on its original LP release.
Dating from 1967 and engineered expertly by Kenneth Wilkinson the recording is all you would expert from that source . . ."

Harold Lawrence became manager of the London Symphony in 1968 so this is also from an early LSO time for Harold.  SEE lso.co.uk/harold-lawrence-1923-2011ee for a potted history.

Scans are actual album and disc. Scan Three is of the Previn/LSO World Tour and was taken by Harold's wife, Mary.
