Description

redgarnett Store ITEM DESCRIPTION:

This beautiful and very rare 2 LP gatefold set from Japanese Victor (VIC-4165/6, Japanese pressing, shaded dog label, DDD stereo) features Tatyana Nikolayeva in a magnificent traversal of Bach’s Six French Suites BWV 812-817, recorded by Melodiya in Moscow in 1984, and released the following to mark the 300th Anniversary of the composer’s birth.

The exact contents are as follows:

French Suite No. 1 in D minor BWV 812

French Suite No. 2 in C minor BWV 813

French Suite No. 3 in B minor BWV 814

French Suite No. 4 in E-flat Major BWV 815

French Suite No. 5 in G Major BWV 816

French Suite No. 6 in E Major BWV 817

Although Nikolayeva had recorded these works before with distinction, these later performances from her maturity are imbued with a wisdom and humanity that linger in the memory long after the music has stopped. For all those who treasure the art of the piano, this rare double-album (produced by M. Pakhter) will prove a revelation.

And who would have guessed that a Nikolayeva recording would appear on a shaded dog label? (-:

The striking cover design was executed by Shoh Nagai. The interior panels of the gatefold jacket contain liner notes (the author’s name and text are printed in Japanese only.)

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is bumping/wear at corners, as well as some shelfwear and ringwear to the rear panel. However, there are no seamsplits, bends, owners’ markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, a very good collector’s copy.

The condition of the 2 LPs is near-MINT. Although  thesurfaces are not absolutely silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT) this is a fine copy and playback is superb. If you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this set. In all, these rate as NM collector's copies.
