You are bidding on an exceedingly rare John Lennon/Beatles/Harry Nilsson collectable LP. This is an original test pressing of the Lennon-produced Nilsson masterpiece, "Pussycats", featuring the epic version of "Many Rivers To Cross" with the string arrangement that later became the vocal melody for "#9 Dream". The vinyl comes in a plain white sleeve, with a plain white label, and a white jacket. Someone (Lennon? Nilsson? One of the engineers?) has written, "NILSSON, TEST SCHMEST, PRESSING SCHMESSING, PUSSYCATS", on the front cover. This seems conspicuously like John Lennon humor, so perhaps he himself is the author.
Aside from the rock 'n' roll legend mystique of this item, there is the audiophile appeal. This record sounds UNBELIEVABLE. It is obviously a 'hot stamper' and is, without question, the finest-sounding version of this title you are likely to find anywhere. I played it briefly to compare with my original, orange-label, RCA vinyl and this test pressing absolutely DESTROYS it sonically. The resolution is amazing. It simply explodes out of the speakers, every nuance of the acoustic guitars, strings, and the delicate echo around Nilsson's lead vocal all extremely vivid, palpable, and life-like. Perhaps this test pressing also contains rare versions or unique mixes. I have not screened or scoured for that as I have not had the time to invest in lengthy A/B sessions; a treat for the new owner. Grading is as follows: Jacket: VG+, Vinyl: MINT-/NM.
