GEORG SOLTI conducts Mahler
Symphony Nº 1, a barely played 1st issue of this series. When this came out in the late 70's, you had to be a reader of Practical Hifi, like Orchestral classical, want an already 18 years old lp by then, and be bothered to send away a cheque for this via mail order offer from the magazine. They knew this limited the audience for it so about 800 were pressed. Of those how many have survived in clean condition as here?. The nimbus vinyl formula on special order from ICI back then is very very quiet, letting the mastertape do all the talking. I know this album like the back of my hand, having bought it in 1980 whilst still at school, and having heard it many hundreds of times since then. On this pressing, there is improved clarity between the very busy string sections, with a distinct woodiness to the contribution of the double bass soloist here. It is thrilling. This is one of the greatest supercut albums, even whilst not the most expensive to collect, but makes the most demands on reproduction, given the forces in the recording venue. This is a real highlight in someones collection, one to put on the table for a visceral experience, pretty much start to finish. Nimbus England in the run out grooves as called for.
Vinyl is visually unmarked Mint this is part of the large unplayed selection I am offering, & the sleeve is Near Mint, the british type shrink is still present but no spindle marks to the pristine labels.
