Now their mature music, with a touch of soul and country, is getting the rightly deserved Analogue Productions processing on 200g super-silent vinyl. Hits like the most characteristic song on this record, "Don't Know Why", have never sounded clearer or more sensual. You close your eyes and swear that you are in the recording studio and watch the magic happen. Jones' debut on Blue Note was flawlessly produced by the great Arif Mardin. Jones, daughter of Ravi Shankar, is not exactly a jazz singer, but is accompanied by some highly valued jazz talents: guitarists Adam Levy, Adam Rogers, Tony Scherr, Bill Frisell and Kevin Breit; drummers Brian Blade, Dan Rieser, and Kenny Wolleson; the organist Sam Yahel; Accordionist Rob Burger and violinist Jenny Scheinman. The musicians who regularly accompany Jones, guitarist Jesse Harris and bassist Lee Alexander, also play here on every piece and are also the authors of most of the songs. Both have a gift for the melodious, simple but elegant sequences as well as moving texts.
